Here are a few couplets from a saint of Punjab :

" O Devotee ! When the sense of ego is purged , there is no fear of being let down by anyone from any quarter . "

" You are prepared to dive deep into the sea in order to find out a small pearl , but you refuse to identify your own self which is manifest like a high mountain . "

" What an intoxicant you have drunk , which has delayed your enlightenment so far ? "

" The source of light that sheds effulgence is within you . Alas ! Your eyes are blind to it . "

" You are the Master of the Universe and the three worlds are adorned by you . "

O , the waves of the ocean of Non-Duality ! Dear Human Face Divine , Thou art manifest in the laughing outbursts of jovial persons , in the warbling of the nightingale , in the challenges of Rustam , in the heart-rending wails of the oppressed , in the blooming of buds and in the flirtatious .

Lo ! the din and bustle of the market , the fragrance of the flowery garden , the chill penury of the beggar’s bowl , and the splendour of the Ruler’s crown , all pine for appearance before your exalted Self .

The voice of the blooming faces and the songs of the nightingales are eager to win your favour . You have endowed pleasant fragrance to the musk and the pungent smell to the onion .

You have gifted this death-dealing quality to a diamond and also loveliness to the lips of young unmarried ones .

Says a Persian Poet :

" The fact is that the wine gets intoxicated through Me and not that the wine intoxicates Me . Likewise the tune in the flute and the fragrance in the flowers have their origin in Me . "

And thus says an English Poet :

" Ye glittering towns with wealth and plenty crowned ,
For me your tributary stores combine
Creation's heir the world , the world in mine . "

( 1 ) The part of the Universe which is experienced by the sense of hearing is ether ,

( 2 ) that which is felt by the sense of touch is air ,

( 3 ) that which is known by the sense of eyes is light ,

( 4 ) that which is realized by taste through tongue is water ,

( 5 ) that which is known by smell is Earth

— all these five elements owe their existence to Thee , O Beloved !

A Persian Poet says :

" None exists in this Universe except Thy own Self . It is immaterial whether Thou doth agree or not . "

The rays of your consciousness , emanating from your eyes , create the diverse objects . The waves of your creative power produce voices both sweet and bitter . O , the Support of the high and the low ! the morning breeze fortified by your power blows about sportingly .

" The BRAHMAN at whose instance the wind blows and the sun shines , the gods of Fire and Rain ( Indra ) remain alert and the god of Death is on its heels , is none but your own Self . "

( Yajurveda , Taitrya Upanishada )

Says a Persian Poet :

" It is not my eyes alone which shed the glories of Thy hallowed face , the Moon and the Sun also reflect the same . "

The ancient sage , Vashista , says :

" All that is apparent is GOD's own manifestation in the various forms and names . This is not only ITs creation , but ITs own Self permeating all . "

Also says an Urdu Poet :

" It is paradoxical that IT shines in the form of midday sun in full bewitching splendour , yet conceals ITs glorious face behind the curtain . "

The flames of fire may burn wood and stone but they do not harm fire itself .

The wrath of an Emperor may cause terror among the ministers and courtiers but the Emperor is never afraid of the Emperor's own glory .

The roar of a lion and the challenging demeanour of the valiant , the sharpness of a sword , the hiss of a serpent , the reprimand of a priest , and the scolding of a presiding judge are Your glorious manifestations .

Why should one get panic stricken by them ? Why would one waiver ?

Says a Persian Poet :

" The death dealing sword of eyes and the arrows of endless coquetry are the reflections of your own face . But why should they confront you . "

O dear , have a peep inside your own self . Why fear ? Why get terror stricken ? Why bewail your lot ? Gloom and anger , pain and sorrow should find no place in this set up .

Says a Persian Poet :

" I roam about listlessly like a mad person full of ecstasy . I am free from fear or sorrow — I tread on the path of endless bliss and I am the sole monarch of the heaven . Time does not worry me . All bliss — all joy . "

" One who has realized the joy of the soul is free from all fear and doubt . " ( Taitriya Upanishada )

Day in and day out , you are engrossed in monetary affairs , in the fine intricacies of logic and philosophy , in the meshes of mathematical and scientific problems .

You also indulge in unnecessary argumentation and critical analysis , yet it is a matter of wonder that you are incapable to discover the invaluable genuine pearl in your own Self .

Says a Persian Poet :

" That secret , which is clear like the flame of a candle light , cannot remain concealed . "

( The idea being that the hidden thing , which is manifest publicly , cannot remain a secret . )

O , my dear , if you just discover the lost ring you are the lord of the world and heavens .

Says a Persian Poet :

" O Solomon , Activate your ring and make the celestial beings and the fairies your captives . We are sick of this worldly water from the wells . Allow your stream of heavenly bliss to flow , so as to reveal the hidden faces and enlighten our physical frame ."
