YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVI

|| VERSE 9 | DESCRIPTION OF THE INTELLECTUAL SPHERE ||

As the seawater shows itself in various forms in all its waves , so Consciousness does not differ from it , in showing Its various representations of Its motion .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVI

|| VERSE 10 | DESCRIPTION OF THE INTELLECTUAL SPHERE ||

The diversities of subjective and objective knowledge of " myself " and " yourself " and " these " , are like the varieties of waves and billows in the ocean of Consciousness .

These are but erroneous notions , since they are representations of the same element , and the very same Consciousness .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVI

|| VERSE 12 | DESCRIPTION OF THE INTELLECTUAL SPHERE ||

Consciousness presents Its two different aspects to Knowledge and Ignorance :

To Ignorance , It shows Its unreal nature in the realistic conception of the World , while to Knowledge It exhibits Its luminous form in the identity of all things with GOD .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVI

|| VERSE 14 | DESCRIPTION OF THE INTELLECTUAL SPHERE ||

Consciousness neither rises nor sets , nor gets up nor sits ; neither proceeds nor recedes to or fro ; is neither here nor nowhere .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVI

|| VERSE 16 | DESCRIPTION OF THE INTELLECTUAL SPHERE ||

As a heap of fire emits its flame , and a luminous body blazes with its rays ; and as the sea swells in surges and breaks in with its arms , so Consciousness bursts out in Its Creation .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVII

|| VERSE 3 | UPASAMA : SAMENESS OR QUIETISM OF SOUL ||

As the motion of the waters on the surface does not affect the waters in the depth of the sea , so the fluctuations of the changing scenes of nature make no alteration in the ever tranquil Spirit of BRAHMAN .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVII

|| VERSE 4 | UPASAMA : SAMENESS OR QUIETISM OF SOUL ||

As the desert in summer heat presents the waters of mirage to the clear sky , so the false World shows its delusive appearances to the mind .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVII

|| VERSE 6 | UPASAMA : SAMENESS OR QUIETISM OF SOUL ||

The World is neither a reality nor unreality ; it is situated in Consciousness but appears to be placed without It .

It is not separate from Soul , although it seems to be different from It , as the ornament appears to differ from its gold .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVII

|| VERSE 7-8 | UPASAMA : SAMENESS OR QUIETISM OF SOUL ||

Soul whereby there is perception of form and figures and of sound and smell , is the Supreme BRAHMAN pervading all things .

Pure Soul being One in many , and inherent in all external objects , cannot be thought as distinct from those that appear otherwise than Itself .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVII

|| VERSE 9 | UPASAMA : SAMENESS OR QUIETISM OF SOUL ||

It is the difference of human thoughts that judges differently of the existence and nonexistence of things , and of their good and bad natures also ; and the existence of the World , either as situated in or without the Divine Spirit .

YOGA VASISHTHA | MITRA | VOL 2.2 | BOOK IV | CHAP XXXVII

|| VERSE 10 | UPASAMA : SAMENESS OR QUIETISM OF SOUL ||

Whereas it is impossible for anything to exist beside the Spirit of GOD , it was the Spirit that " willed to become many " .

As there was nothing beside Itself , which It could think of or find for Itself , It was necessary that It became so of Itself , and without the aid of any extraneous matter .
